Fall of the Berlin Wall
After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the implosion of the Soviet Union, the USA found herself the sole superpower on Earth. Today, a decade and a half later, she has squandered golden opportunities – by leading through intimidation and military force, and disdaining accord with her friends and peace with her adversaries.
It is not too late to change. Not yet, at least. A fresh page can be turned. The better angels of our nature may yet prevail, as President Lincoln foretold long ago. Consider what happened in South Africa and the American Southland. Who would have thought such peaceful transformation possible?
First-strike warfare and regime change, and the threat of these, need not remain American policy. We can do better. We must do better.
